Long seasons of sunshine beckon us outdoors in the southwest; sunny days and clear skies tug at our sleeves begging us to plant and harvest. With shovel in hand, our fantasies soon give way to reality as we face the challenges of triple digit temperatures, dry air, harsh winds, and poor soil conditions. Gardening in the Southwest is both a blessing and a challenge. We live in places that span from low desert to high desert to coastal regions. Each location has its own unique challenges but offers plenty of rewards to anyone willing to take the time to learn how to work with the elements.

Our Southwest Gardening Calendar is a guide through the seasons of the Southwest. Use it as a general reference, but be sure to check your USDA Hardiness Zone for more information on your specific location ( Always remember that reference information is great, but the knowledge you gain through experience is even greater!
